TOPMAN SS16
Topman's SS16 collection put its own take on the Northern Soul fashion and style.
'Danz like your Northern' was the slogan, very fitting with the Northern Soul theme, the collection included jackets which had sewn on patches embracing the 'Keep The Faith' movement and patches which were sewn on to the majority of Soulie's clothes during the 60's and 70's at Wigan Casino.
'Northern soul—a '70s incubated, post-mod, pre-disco underground dance scene centered around obscure rhythm and blues that was big beyond the Midlands—remains one of Britain's most evocative style tribes.' - Vogue Runway
The collection also included tank sports vests and extremely baggy pants, to express the excess of the fashion people wore to dance in the acrobatic way that they were. Suit jacket and trousers paired with a t-shirt to show the care-free dress. As well as showing some of the typical outfits that soulies would have worn in the 60s and 70s, they also took the looks and made their own adaptations, such as jeans with the sew on patches, these would not have been ideal in Wigan Casino, dancing eccentrically, but they do identify the theme of these nights well. The clothing also shows how they have taken some inspiration from the mod scene, with the leather, studs and dark colour palette.
