For our presentation, we expressed our initial concept as well as ideas for the location, poses, makeup and hair, models and dress code.
We went through our community idea, along with our main video ideas for the project. This was that we wanted to follow the central protagonist of the video throughout the city of Sheffield, showing what they would do on an everyday basis before meeting up with friends; forming this community that our take on the module reflects. Following the main character throughout different shops, walking down the streets past worn down areas, focussing on graffiti with the camera to emphasise the working class. We also expressed our idea of having a voiceover, this mixed with direct eye contact from the central protagonist would help to engage and connect the audience. The voiceover is also there to make it super clear what the message of the project is, and to give an inside into the main character's inner thoughts and feelings as we follow her through the city. The voiceover would then fade into music as the character goes from being alone in the city to being with many friends around the derelict worn down areas. Joining the community which the voiceover would speak about. The feel-free escapism of dance.
The location moodboard used in the presentation shows that we wanted the main part of the video to be filmed in a derelict area along with graffiti, to really emphasise a working class background, but also the creativity of the art and dance, being able to feel care-free wherever you are and whoever you are with.
We explained through the make up and hair moodboard that we wanted very basic and glowy make-up and hair, almost as if no effort at all has gone into their appearance, as if the characters are more interested about getting out of the house (escaping), and enjoying themselves with their friends and community, without the need to care about what they look like. Also the glowy face could suggest they they have been so care-free with the dancing and working out energetically.
The dress code will be researched in more detail, however from the initial research which has already been done we decided that perhaps a mode meets disco theme would be ideal, such as Fred Perry or Ralph Lauren polo shirts, along with flares or flowy skirts or pants. This dress code I think would work best as the Northern Soul theme was about being free and being able to move eccentrically, therefore baggy clothes would be essential.
