NORTHERN SOUL FINAL FILM

Positives
My favourite parts of the video are the effects added in post production, the grain and aspect ratio give the film a bit of edge and make it look slightly different. Also, we incorporated a voiceover which added context and depth to the video, it helps to tell the story of the protagonist and it works well and fades into 'Do I Love You?' by Frank Wilson, a Northern Soul Classic.
The protagonist in the film was Hannah's flatmate Nia, she helped to add diversity into the film to show people from different background coming together to celebrate the freedom which Northern Soul provides.
The dress code used was another strength, the bright yellow t shirt not only fits with the theme of my blog but it represents the Northern Soul culture as it is Fred Perry. This was paired with baggy culottes and comfortable trainers.
Many shots used were tracking shots, which we ideally wanted to use, and I think all the straight cuts of the shots worked well together to tell the story of the protagonist walking through Sheffield. The establishing shot of Sheffield is also a strength at the end of the video as it pans from the protagonist to the view of the city, the shot brings the audience into the central protagonists eyes, bringing them closer than ever.
Negatives
I think the location for the dance at the end could've possibly be improved or had several different locations to switch between, we did try to gain access to film in The Foundry, however they never emailed us back.
More people could've been casted in the film, a bigger group would've shown a wider community, perhaps even more people from different backgrounds.
Some of the shots were extremely over exposed so they had to either be disregarded or heavy editing in post production to match the rest of the shots.
